Conservation measures and experimental setup

The main conservation measure is a change in irrigation practice: drip irrigation instead of sprinklers and precision irrigation instead of furrow irrigation. However there is not enough groundwater as irrigation supply so additional water harvesting is done in the form of snowmelt harvesting. In more details:

  • Test of drip irrigation use at local conditions of fresh water shortness with aim to enhance potentiality of irrigation.
  • Improvement of snow melted water harvesting system with aim to enhance soil moisture storage:
    • improved surface and ground water resources;
    • snow retention structure;
    • snow melted water harvesting structure;
    • snow melted water impounding structure;
  • Improvement of water storage capability of water retention ponds by set up of impermeability to pond bottom layer
