Conservation measures and experimental setup
Experimental setup
The field will be divided into 4 parts. One smaller plot will be reserved for control measurements. In the remaining plots zero-tillage, mulching and strip cropping will be applied. Mulching will be naturally established by remains of cereals' rotation. Zero-tillage will be applied. For strip cropping 4 rows of crop bands (each 25 m wide) aligned perpendicular to dominant wind direction will be established.
- WOCAT reference conservation measure (Qt reference): MOR10
- WOCAT reference implementation approach (Qa reference): -
Expected effects
Strip cropping will reduce the velocity of wind and hence topsoil removal. Mulching is expected to contribute organic matter content of soil and protecting it from wind blown. Zero-tillage will significantly decrease evaporation and contribute groundwater saving.
