Conservation measures and experimental setup

Experimental setup

  1. Soil conservation by improvement of irrigation water application regime provided by pivotal sprinkler irrigation machine by decreasing artificial rain intensity (i.e. increasing speed of machine rotation) with aim to prevent soil surface flooding and as consequences - runoff developing, soil erosion and preferential flow to ground water.
  2. Water conservation by testing of drip irrigation for legume use (instead of irrigation by furrow generating soil erosion and inefficient irrigation water application) at local conditions of growing price for fresh water supply.

Expected effects

  • More economic supply of irrigation water leading ultimately to a stop in salinity problems while maintaining a high crop yield
  • Demonstration effect on all levels from small holders to the political level
  • Decrease of water erosion and conservation of water use
