General Information
The Boteti site is situated in the Central District of Botswana, a sparsely populated, semi-arid country located in Southern Africa (Figure 1). Boteti is the smallest sub-district (34,956 sq km) in the Central District which is the largest administrative region in Botswana (146,531 sq km). Within Boteti, the focus of DESIRE is on the villages of Rakops and Mopipi-Mokoboxane (Figure 2) with an estimated combined area of 3,000 sq km. The site lies between coordinates 24°-25° East and 20°30'-21°15' South. However, piloting of remediation projects will focus on the Mopipi-Mokoboxane area (Figure 3), covering about 400 square kilometres.
