Dissemination strategy Print
The dissemination strategy for this study site identifies a number of different target audiences to whom information and results from the project can be addressed. The contents of messages, the format in which they are delivered and their expected impact vary from one audience to another.

 

1. High-school students, teachers and general public: newspaper article

 

Location Murcia and Spain.
Message What is desertification, and what can YOU do prevent it and deal with its impacts.
Product format Newspaper article based on interview with DESIRE scientists, prepared by students for national newspaper El Pais as part of a student contest.
Method of dissemination »National newspaper (link expired)
Expected impact Awareness building about desertification, its impacts, and what to do about it.

 

 

2. International scientific community and policy makers: conference presentation

 

Location EGU general assembly and global.
Message Sustainable Land Management in SE-Spain: effective and feasible
measures to reduce soil and water loss for agriculture.
Product format Oral conference presentation.
Method of dissemination Oral presentation and internet.
Expected impact Discussion and better understanding of effectiveness and feasibility of conservation measures.

 

 

3. Local and external stakeholders in Spain: field demonstration

 

Location Guadalentín study site, Spain.
Message Demonstration of the effectiveness and feasibility of SLM measures in the field.
Product format Field demonstration.
Method of dissemination Journal and oral presentation at meeting.
Expected impact

Increased awareness and ownership over the experiments and their effectiveness. This is expected to increase acceptance and implementation.

 

 

4. International scientific community and policy makers: article and posters

 

Location

International.

Message Effectiveness of a participatory approach for decision making in environmental management.
Product format »Journal article; »Evaluation of experimental results by stakeholders, »Engaging with people affected by desertification
Method of dissemination Internet.
Expected impact Better design and more use of participatory processes of decision making.

 

 

5. Local and external stakeholders in Spain: workshop

 

Location Guadalentin study site, Spain.
Message Regional impacts of land degradation and regional effectiveness of solutions.
Product format Workshop
Method of dissemination Oral at workshop.
Expected impact Increased awareness of the problem and regional impacts of solutions, leading to higher acceptance of solutions.

 

 

6. Local and external stakeholders and policy makers: newsletters and brief

 

Location Guadalentin study site, and national Spain.
Message Effectiveness and socioeconomic feasibility of SLM measures in SE Spain.
Product format »Local newsletter (Noticias del Campo)
Method of dissemination Internet (HIS), email, hardcopy by mail, by hand at workshop.
Expected impact 1) Increased awareness and ownership over the experiments and their effectiveness. This is expected to increase acceptance and implementation.
2) Better design of agricultural subsidies.

 

 

7. Scientists, national and supranational organisations (UNCCD, EU, WOCAT): newsletter

 

Location International.
Message Effectiveness and socioeconomic feasibility of SLM measures in SE Spain.

Method of dissemination Internet (HIS), hardcopy at DESIRE annual meeting, email.
Expected impact Increased insight in effectiveness, impacts and economic feasibility of SLM in SE Spain.

Message Biophysical and socioeconomic impacts of SLM and land use change on soil erosion,  ecosystem services.
Product format »Journal articles.
Method of dissemination Internet, hardcopy.
Expected impact 1) Better understanding of how land use change and SLM options affect ecosystem services.
