Situation

(a) 3 adjacent slope cropland of around 0.1 ha each with different gradients [which gradients], in each patch [part of a field?], there are 3 treatments, conventional tillage, contour tillage and mulching with half top residue.

(b) 1 sparse forest without practice around 1 ha, the treatments would be original condition and patch with infiltration contour ditch.

Physiographic setting of the plots

The monitoring area is in the gully area of the Chinese Loess plateau. Crop fields are located on the foot region of hills along the valley with slope from 10 to 25 degree or more, and the sparse land with a 20 degree slope is on the convex-straight slope at southern position.
