Forest health

A survey on the status of health of forested areas around will be conducted as they are essential for maintaining present rate of water table refilling in the main groundwater system of the Mt. Vulture. In the HIS of the study site is described in details the importance of the groundwater system of Mt. Vulture for the mitigation of possible desertification trends in the area and surrounding. The historical evidence of vegetation species and canopy cover in the Mt. Vulture indicate the fragile ecosystem in it and the influence on the hydrologic equilibrium of the area. The survey will be performed starting in the early summer 2009 in collaboration with a researcher of university of Bari. During the survey in the coniferous and deciduous (chestnuts) forested areas in the Mt. Vulture will be evaluate the state of health of the forested areas using quick common indicator in forest management practice .
