Major livelihood sources

Irrigated agriculture is mostly composed of food crops (vegetables, banana, cassava, sweet potato) destined for subsistence of the families as well as for local and main markets. In the past, production of banana as a cash crop for exportation was very important but, with degradation of the resource base (lack of water, soil and water salinization, fertility decline, general drought), banana productivity has declined and production barely covers the needs of the population.
