Major drivers of land degradation processes

The main driver for degradation processes is the population growth, which sets an overwhelming pressure on the natural resources, despite the effort made on soil and water conservation.

Other important drivers are: deficient information regarding natural resource management; insecure land tenure since most of the farmers do not own land; poor access to financial support for agriculture activities; and lack of institutional mechanisms to implement and monitor political measures regarding natural resource management.
